JULY 10 1995 BOARD MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

The Waiamanalo Neighborhood Board No. 32 met on Monday, July 10, 1995 at the Waimanalo Public Library. Chair Pro tem Linden Burzell called the meeting to order at 7:35, with a quorum present.

Members Present: Jane Gouveia-Simpson, Nancy Glover, Phil Ellsworth, Al Lewis, Gregory Field, Kalani Ohelo, Steven Tayama, Linden Burzell, Luana Saffrey-Beck.

Members Absent: Ben Kama, Wilson Ho.

Election of Board Chair and Officers for 1995-1996 (1 year term): Gouveia-Simpson nominated Linden Burzell for Board Chair. Burzell was elected 7-1. Glover nominated Field for Vice Chair. Field was elected unanimously. Field nonimated Gouveia-Simpson for Secretary/Treasurer. Gouveia-Simpson was elected unanimously.

Filling of Vacancies:

Sub-district 5 (Waimanalo Village): No candidates.

Sub-district 7 (Oluolu Homestead, plus makai side of Kalanianaole Highway): Louana Saffrey-Beck was unanimously elected.

Sub-district 11 (Hale Aupuni): No candidates.

Elected Representatives:

Rep. Eve Anderson: Discussed summit type meeting of legislators, insurance experts, the insurance comisioner to discuss no fault auto insurance reform. Rep. Anerson announced a public meeting regarding the widening of Kalanianaole Highway.

Mayor's Representative: Nick Houtman reported the city has taken responsibility to fix the undercut roadway at Waikupanaha and Kumuhau Streets. The Mo'ole bus stop will be moved and the bus shelter removed. The mayor feels citizens should have undiminished access to Hanauma Bay and will veto the council's bill an proposing entrance fee.

Councilmember John Henry Felix: Staff member Isadora Tai highlighted Community Policing Workshop to be held July 15. Lewis congradulated Felix's recent Lifetime Achievement Award.

Sen. Whitney Anderson: No representative was present. Lewis moved and Ellsworth seconded that a leter be sent to Sen. Anderson to encourage him to attend Waimanalo Neighborhood Board meetings. The motion carried 9-0.

Ohana Council: Representative requested item be changed to Independent Nation /State of Hawaii. Highlighted educating Native hawaiians on arights and role in achieving independence.

New Business:

Windward Triathlon: The Board voted unanimously to support approval of the special permit required by Windward Triathlon for the bicycle portion of the event in Waimanalo.

7-Eleven Liquor License: The Board voted unanimously to oppose the liquor liscense request at the 7-11 next to theBeach Park.
