BEWARE , THE PLEBISCITE!
How much more injustice will be done to our Hawaiian lands and Hawaiian people by the STATE government?
Of late, we have witnessed the eviction of the Beltrand `ohana from Mokuleia and the on-going rape of our sacred lands in constructing the H-3--all compliments of the STATE government.
The most recent injustice by the STATE is the creation of the STATE Sovereignty Election Council (SEC) in 1994; who together using STATE funding have the audacity to ask our Hawaiian people, here and around the world, to vote in their Plebiscite.
The only result that will come out of the Plebiscite will be to give the STATE government total control regarding Hawaiian Sovereignty, our lands and our natural resources! `A'ole loa! (Never)
I cannot express more strongly, "BEWARE! DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE STATE-SUPPORTED PLEBISCITE!"

If that isn't the `Pot calling the Kettle Black!!!'
While the STATE sits on their `behinds' and `twiddle their thumbs' figuring out how to pay back to the Hawaiian people $600 million-plus (a very minute sum) from `abusive use' of stolen Hawaiian lands, the STATE becomes another decade delinquent!!!
While the legislative auditor defined Homestead mortagage delinquencies of $16 million a "chronic problem," how would he define his employer's (State government) delinquency? Nothing short of na'aupo (ignorant) and ho'omauhala (spiteful)!!!
The Homesteaders' delinquencies of $16 million will not make a `dent' to alleviate the 16,000 applicants on DHHL waiting list as compared to the $600 million-plus that would make a `dent.'
I detest the insinuation that Hawaiian Homesteaders canot pay $1 a year for land lease! On the contrary, it is the horrendous mortagage rates on the home that we are equally consumed by and are struggling to deal with as are the majority of homeowners STATE-wide!

Hula oops
In the June issue we accurately conveyed our admiration for Kumu Hula Ellen Castillo and her student Sharla Albinio. We mistakenly identified Sharla as Miss Aloha Hula. Sharla was named fourth runner-up to the title of Miss Aloha Hula at the recent Merry Monarch festival. Both she and Kumu Ellen Castillo are Waimanalo residents.
Miss Maggie
In June's article on the six retiring faculty and staff of Waimanalo School--I Will Miss It All!--we mis-spelled Maggie Peros' name. Maggie, you will be missed at Waimanalo School.
Leaves
A Stitch in Time (Waimanalo Beat) described the quilt that was handmade by Waimanalo School faculty for the school's 70th Anniversary. Principal Marian Holokai contributed a light green breadfruit leaf--not grapefruit as we reported.
Cyber dog ate my homework
A few sentences were left out of Stephanie Pintz' article Computers in Our School. The first paragraph in its entirety should read:
"Turn off the TV!" is heard with increasing frequency as we learn of the harmful effects of excessive viewing by children. What finds little resistance and challenge, however, is the computer education movement sweeping our schools. Parents and teachers seem frightened that today's children will be condemned to a poverty-stricken future if computer education is not offered from the earliest possible age. I wish to offer another viewpoint. It is clear that we live in a "Technological Age" and that high school graduates must be educated accordingly. But I believe we need to ask to what purpose are we attempting to produce computer literate young children (elementary school age), and at what expense?
