Bumpy - Just AskingJust Asking:

On August 1, 1995, Dennis Bumpy Kanahele, sovereignty activist, was arrested by US Marshals/FBI agents for harboring a fugitive and obstructing a police officer from arresting Nathan Brown (a tax dissenter). The arrest came about a year and a half after the fact. What are your thoughts and feelings on the arrest of Bumpy Kanahele?

It's against the law. He shouldn't have done it. It's plain and simple: If you know it's against the law and you do it... you pay.

Louise _______:

He went about it the wrong way. If you want respect you give it. They wanted someone who did it wrong. He went about it the wrong way. I've got nothing against the sovereignty activists. It should be more for the kids--the next generation. He's doing a good job. He should offer the kids more--education wise, jobs, houses. I'm one of the fortunate ones. I've got a house up in homestead.

Joe Kelly:

I believe in sovereignty but maybe the leadership is jammed up. Maybe the leadership not so good. Maybe Bumpy Kanahele not the best guy. Maybe they should look for one better leader. Shouldn't waste time figuring out what to do with Bumpy Kanahele. Most of them don't know what sovereignty is. They're just there for the housing. He's a prisoner of his own guilt. What I fear and what I see, I think he's wrong. He's making the Hawaiians look bad.

It seems that they're holding him not for what happened but for political BS. I don't agree with Bumpy's views and positions. I don't think it can change what happened one hundred years ago. They're just holding him to create problems for his movement.

This has a lot to do with sovereignty, and Bumpy Kanahele has a lot of power. So they want to get him out of the picture so he's not available to do any harm.

Dolinda Kaholi:

We support him! How can America bring in a person like Marcos? That was harboring a criminal. They're trying to make it like a Waco. They're trying to do away with the Hawaiian race.
