Waimanalo Flag Football teams continue to dominate both mustang and Bronco age divisions. Coach Phil Vierra wants to extend his thanks to Thalia Burns and Joanna Cook who serve as team mothers. He also wants to appeal to he last few parents who haven't turned in their fund raising moneys yet. Remember, if your money isn't turned in it not only affects your child, but uses up the profits from two other children as well.
Our youth volleyball teams are also doing quite well. Coaches Earl Kupaha and Kimberly Machado deserve a lot of credit for taking on both the youngest and oldest age groups while Kalei Kaio's 5th and 6th grade team is very appreciative of the time she spends with them. All three of these coaches are former youth players from our community who have returned to "give back." Their unselfish dedication is what helps make our town a better place to live in.
The annual Halloween Costume Contest was held Monday October 30 at the Gym. Our thanks go out to Friends of Waimanalo, the Waimanalo Lions Club and the Waimanalo Senior Citizens Club for their donations that made the contest possible.
The next big event coming up is the Waimanalo Community Teen Christmas dance which will be held at the gym from 7 to 10 pm on December 8. Music will be provided by the HPD Sting Detail with their state of the art disco sound and light system, the most advanced one of its kind on the island. Admission for this dance will be free, but please wear shoes that won't damage the gym floor or use bare feet.
Registration is now taking place for Waimanalo Community P.A.L. Basketball. Nine and ten years olds, 11 and 12 year olds, and 13 and 14 year olds will play here at the gym, and younger and older groups will travel to other sites for their games. Sign up at Waimanalo Gym any weekday afternoon or evening. We're especially looking for volunteer coaches.
