We are fortunate to live in a beautiful community! The Koolaus rise above us and the beaches stretch across our coastline. Streams run mauka to makai giving fish, plants and other living things a habitat to live in.
Unfortunately our streams get cluttered with natural and "unnatural" debris. People use the streams as a place to throw their garbage and yard clippings. Sometimes used furniture and appliances are dumped. Dumping causes health problems as the debris ends up polluting our streams and our ocean!
How can you help? If you have items that can be recycled please recycle. If you have trash take it to the Waimanalo Refuse Center on Hihimanu Street. If you notice trash in a stream bed pick it up, or if its too big call our office with a description of trash items and location of stream.
The Waimanalo Ahupua'a Council has adopted 1,000 feet of Kahawai Stream makai of Frankie's Drive-in. A community clean-up day will be scheduled in November, and volunteers are needed.
Let's roll up our sleeves and work together to keep Waimanalo "spick and span"!
