Park October

At The Park

There's all kind of action at the District Park this Fall. A couple of dates to remember are October 10 when Native Hawaiian Drug Free Schools and Communities puts on another performance of "Family Laundry." This is a 60 minute musical comedy/drama written especially for Hawaiian and local audiences. The impact of drug and alcohol use on the family is explored with emphasis on the strength and resilience commonly used to cope with these and other challenges facing many Hawaiian families today.

The play is performed by a cast of professional/musician actors including Tremayne Tamayose, who also wrote and directs the play, James Pestana, Cyndi Mayo-Souza, Faline Kini, Lopaka Kapanui and Shoji Ledward. This enjoyable and really moving and inspirational event will begin at 7 pm in the Gym. Staff will be available after the program to talk story with those who attend. If you miss the October 10 date, there will be another performance at Tenney Theatre at St. Andrews Cathedral on October 26.

Another date to remember is October 30 for Waimanalo's Annual Community Halloween Costume Contest. Registration for this event will begin at 6 pm and the contest itself will start promptly at 6:30. There will be prizes given in three categories, spookiest, most original, and most adorable; and in three age groups, 5 years and below, 6 to 9 years, and 10 years and above. Both the Halloween Contest and "Family Laundry" are free of charge.

PAL

Officer John Kaulu is running a PAL Flag Football League with twenty teams in two divisions, and Waimanalo is currently leading and undefeated in both age groups. Head Coach Phil Vierra and his staff of Lawrence Sanchez, Derek Baxter, Isi Paraon, and John Fritz deserve a lot of credit for working with these boys and girls six days a week for two hours from August until November. Officer Kaulu, as always, puts his best efforts into the league and helps provide the teams with many memorable experiences. Thanks also to his umpire Lawrence Kaleiwohi.

The community's thanks go out to Solomon Kailimoku and his neighbors from Kauhale Ohana for helping rid the park of graffiti. They have been scrubbing and painting it over as soon as it comes up and the park looks so much better without it. Mahalo!
