Unisyn Odors--A Concerned Resident
I am Vinnie Fukunaga who was the one notifying people of odors belonging to Unisyn and not the Dairy. Talking and reading about their life living around Unisyn and how bad the odors get. Dairy residents get it very bad but they live on Dairy housing. A group of ladies I spoke to on Oluolu Street while leaving notices in mailbox thanked me for being concerned about other people.
I fought with Health Department, politicians, Neighborhood Board to give concerns to the residents of Waimanalo.
Letter of warning of 10 days or $10,000 a day fine to cleanup their act was issued on July 28, 1995. It never stopped the odors; it's even gotten worse all the way up to August 14, 1995, the day of the Neighborhood Board meeting.
At the meeting I spoke up about Unisyn, about smells and zoning and no monitoring of what was going up there. At the meeting a committee was formed concerning Unisyn and a date of meeting with Health Department and Unisyn. This date was changed without letting me know. What happened?
I gave a lot of my work and documents to Eve Anderson and Nancy Glover trusting them. The odor was validated by Dr. Iman Sanz from Unisyn; she had gone to my home on August 14 before the meeting.
Unisyn is not the same; within a year it changed to a First acid and methane digestors. They are already advertising that Canada and Germany want to buy applications of their technology (I found out it is in the Millions of dollars). I started my efforts for my friends and neighbors and very much my own family. That is the truth.
